Go Green!
Whether or not you understand the intricacies of climate science, as a members of the global community it is vital that we are all good stewards to the Earth. Many of us try to reduce, reuse and recycle, while others carpool or ride their bikes to work. Every little bit helps as we make efforts to think globally by acting locally.
When it comes to the planet’s natural resources, like wind and solar, we have barely scratched the surface of their potential! They are virtually untapped, making for great tools we can use to help preserve the world for future generations.
Going Green is something we hear now on a daily basis, but what exactly does it mean? Big or small, the things we do everyday have global impacts and a greener lifestyle helps ensure the sustainability of our planet. If things continue on as they are now our children’s children will live in a very different world. Think of it as being like the butterfly effect, small actions in one place can create large changes in another location. And since every action has an affect on other probabilities, the results are infinite!
Here are a few things to think about:
- The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50 MILLION homes for 20 years
- Each gallon of gas used by a car contributes 19 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere
- Americans dump 16 tons of sewage into their waters – every minute of every day
- Eighty-four percent of a typical household’s waste – including food scraps, yard waste, paper, cardboard, cans and bottles – can be recycled
- Using recycled paper for one print run of the Sunday edition of the New York Times would save 75,000 trees
- A 1/32″ leak in a faucet can waste up to 6,000 gallons of water a month, or 72,000 gallons a year
- By turning the heat down, Americans could save more than 500,000 barrels of oil each day
- If all the cars on the U.S. roads had properly inflated tires, it would save nearly two billion gallons of gasoline a year
GPM is committed to doing our part in making the world a cleaner, greener place for us to all call home. With our help become more earth friendly while reaping financial benefits, because going green can also mean saving green!
